Lowenstein Medical

This new Lena Full Face Mask by Lowenstein Medical has been developed especially for patients on high CPAP, BiPAP and Non-invasive Ventilator Pressures and features a Dual Lipped Cushion to create a good mask seal.

This new Lowenstein Medical Lena Full Face Mask can  be used by all CPAP users, but Lowenstein have produced this mask especially for those on high CPAP pressures, Bi-Level and Non-invasive Ventilators (NIV) -  thus helping prevent mask leakage. Lowenstein have particularly addressed the problem that can happen for patients needing different pressures on Bi-Level and NIV with a higher inhale (IPAP) and exhale (EPAP) to prevent movement of the mask.  See the video below:-

The Lena Mask version we supply is the vented mask for most CPAP, Bi-Level and Non-Invasive Ventilator users. The same mask can be used in specific cases when a non-vented mask is needed, and we do have some non-vented elbow sets but are not putting them on the website to prevent the more common vented mask users purchasing them by mistake, which is dangerous, so if you do need to purchase the non-vented adapter please contact us.

Lowenstein Medical says:-

Lena - Reliable at high pressures too!

Most people breathe in and out without having to think about it. Patients with respiratory insufficiency or sleep-related respiratory disorders need help with breathing. LENA – the new full-face mask from Löwenstein – has been developed specially for ventilation (and CPAP). The primary focus is on a comfortable mask fit,  particularly when high pressures are applied or when the pressure difference between inspiration and exhalation is considerable.

Three factors are essential for an optimum mask fit at high therapy pressures.

The mask cushion stands out with its double lip. The therapy pressure creates an air cushion that provides a perfect seal without causing any pressure points. The shape mirrors the anatomy and is based on two factors:  Our patient face database that has been growing for many years and the market feedback that is constantly collected and evaluated.

Lena Mask Double Lipped Cushion

The second important factor concerns the connection between mask cushion and mask body. On the one hand, the connection must be stable during the therapy – both at constantly high pressures and with high pressure differences during inspiration and exhalation with Bi-Level therapy. On the other hand, the connection must be easy to disassemble so that it can be cleaned simply and effectively. An apparent paradox that LENA resolves effectively.

The headgear completes the essential triad. The headgear material is strong enough to ensure that the mask does not leak or become unstable at high pressure differences. An individually adjustable forehead support including forehead cushion gives LENA extra grip.

Features:-

Forehead cushion - broad surface distributes pressure evenly.

Forehead support - easy-to-use sliding element permits almost infinite adjustment.

Mask cushion - double lip for a perfect seal all round; new design with anatomically rounded, soft edges; varied structure on the surface ensures a good, lasting fit.

Connection for O2 feed - no adapter required

Exhalation system - quiet and diffused flow for unimpaired wearing comfort

Headgear - withstands high pressures and big pressure differences; colour coding helps with correct mask assembly; rounded edges helping prevent marks on skin.

Elbow - vented with ball joint for complete freedom of movement; non-vented for valve circuit ventilation (not available on the website, but can be ordered by request).

The Lena Full Face Mask is supplied in either Small, Medium or Large.

There is also an optional 'Ripcord' Quick Release Cord for removing the mask quicker and easier, and an optional XL Headgear if needed.

IMPORTANT:-

The mask cushions are NOT interchangeable with the different sizes of mask.

The worst mask I have tried
29 July 2024  |

Using the guide to select the mask. I selected the small fitting. I have used it a total of 3 times and cannot get it to seal at all. I have tried it tight and relaxed fit with no luck. It looks like it's going in the bottom of my draw to collect dust.

So sorry to hear this as the Lena is getting such good reviews for those struggling with a seal at high pressures. However, we don't fool ourselves that every mask will suit all people which is so frustrating.

Best one yet
19 March 2024  |

Tried quite alot of masks from different manufacturers but having used this Lena for a couple of months it's the best one for my high pressures. I was on the F20 but I'm now getting best results from this.

Do check your face size as I'm a medium with this but a large on most others.

Not the easiest to clean and I think the magnets on other masks are a better idea.

Overall best mask for me to date.

Lena EXCEEDS expectations
04 February 2024  |

This mask really helped me with my therapy. I have been prescribed a high level of pressure therapy (BiPap). Anyone that has tried higher pressures knows it is a very different game than lower pressures. The battle against leaks is constant.

Some points on the Lena mask:
- Don't be afraid of the forehead piece, it helps keep the mask stable and sealed. Better to work good than look good, I say, save the looking good for the day time. It has two adjustments on it as well. This setup works a lot better than other full-face masks with no forehead piece, I think. It has been staying on even as I sleep on my side and move around in the night.
- Straps are very comfortable and adjustable.
- Mask marks in the morning are none or pretty limited, I found. I'll have to experiment with going looser to see where the seal-point is. I'm just used to having to go super tight on my old full face mask.
- You don't have to tighten it up uncomfortably tight for it to seal.
- One of the reasons it works is that it has a double seal. Most others only have a single seal.

As someone else commented, pay attention to the sizing. I usually take a large size for hats, sports helmets, etc. but I tried the Mask Sizing Template from the "Product Details" tab here. It recommended a medium size, so I went with that. I'm glad I did, as the large size probably would have been too big.

Anyways, to each their own, but a big thumbs up from me.

PromisIng but disappointing
19 November 2023  |

When I first tried this mask I was delighted as the fit felt good and it sealed better than any other mask I've used, even without my usual mask liners. My first night's sleep was wonderful. However over the subsequent week the bridge of my nose became increasingly sore and I have now had to revert to my old mask. It may be that the size doesn't suit me as I measure exactly half way between small and medium. (I chose the medium.) The headgear might have been a bit big as well, as it didn't seem to fit the shape of the back of my head properly.
On a couple of colder nights I also experienced a lot of condensation in the mask - something I've never had a problem with in the past. This still happened if I didn't use the humidifier.
It's very frustrating because I feel this could be an excellent mask for the high pressures my machine goes up to. I may try it again when my nose recovers..

Excellent Mask Bilevel NIV users.
10 November 2023  |

I received this mask yesterday midday, I tried it in the afternoon when I was on my PC in my bedroom for two hours and it was great after after a few minor adjustments, I then used it at bedtime and after slightly adjusting it again I got no leaks, not even into my eyes, thanks to the sliding adjustment on the mask forehead strap stem, it also has a connection for Oxygen users on the stem.

A slight word warning, measure your mask size properly using the downloadable size guide, I normally take a medium size in the masks I use, but using the Lena mask I took a small, also be aware you can’t just change the Cushion for different size.

As the title of this review says this mask is excellent for Bilevel NIV machines which normally operate at higher pressures than CPAP machines.

Ian Davis.

Thanks for your review Ian and so pleased the Lena is working well for you, and also you raise an important point of how crucial it is to measure for the correct size. We really hope this mask will prove to help a lot of people who struggle with mask leaks at higher pressures 🙏

ORDERS

Shipping

We try our best to ship all orders received by us Monday-Friday on the same working day if received before 12 noon, and more often than not orders processed before 3pm will be despatched the same day whenever possible.  Weekend or UK bank holiday orders are sent out the next working day.  An automated email is sent when products have been despatched so please check your spam box and add us to your safe senders list.  Also, if you do not receive an email confirmation, please check that you have typed the correct email address in your account.

All orders are sent via 1st class mail within the UK.  Masks and some other more expensive products are always sent via 'signed for' insured delivery and cannot be left in 'safe' places, but there is the option for an alternative shipping address when processing the orders.

Delivery charges are worked out automatically by weight and you can clearly see the delivery charges before making a payment.  On the rare occasion delivery charges are miscalculated by the website, a refund will be sent, as it is not our policy to make money on postage charges and neither do we add the cost of delivery into the price and offer so-called  'free delivery' like some sites and Ebay pressurise sellers to do!

Wherever possible with larger parcels, we try to re-use boxes to keep shipping costs down and protect the environment.

If a product is out of stock and the order contains multiple items, the 'in stock' items will be sent immediately and further items will follow upon arrival with no further postage charges incurred.

Important for International Orders

We can ship most products internationally, but all prices are in UK British Pounds and if paying by debit or credit card the bank will automatically convert to the current conversation rate.  Likewise, if you choose the Paypal option, they will convert into your currency for you as payment is made.

International orders are sent via tracked Airmail, and whilst we're happy to ship internationally, we cannot be held responsible for any delays at Customs at your end, or charges that may be added in your own country, such as customs fees and import tax on delivery, which are determined by your country’s import laws and are beyond our control. Therefore, it is the customer’s responsibility to pay these charges, and certain courier companies will not be able to deliver the goods to you without pre-payment of any charges. From our experience, it appears to be randomised as to which parcels incur extra charges, but please know that all accompanying paperwork is filled in correctly when shipping and there is nothing more we can do, as much as we'd like to.

If you purchase from us out of the UK or you move to another country after purchasing products, please be aware that the warranty for CPAP machines, masks and parts from the manufacturers are under warranty  with the manufacturer based in the UK, so you will be responsible for sending the product back to us and will need to pay postage to get the product back to you after exchange or repair, as the manufacturer will not pay for shipping in any country outside of the UK.

RETURNS

Masks, CPAP machines and and most other products are exempt from a refund or exchange unless faulty due to health and hygiene issues - as stated in our 'Terms and Conditions', and in particular due to the risk of cross contamination as they cannot be re-sold. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 28.(3)(a) confirms exemption as follows:-  "exemption in the case of a contract for the supply of sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they become unsealed after delivery."

Unopened (sealed) products in their original packing can be returned within 14 days for a refund of the product cost, but the purchaser is to pay the return postage, and we would advise retaining proof of postage. This excludes any faulty goods, for which postage will be reimbursed.  A full refund for the price of the product will be issued when received by us, less the original postage charges when the order was sent to you.
