Philips Respironics

The Amara Gel Mask has proved to be a popular full face mask since its original release and Philip Respironics have listened to the patients over the years and made several improvements, providing better comfort and seal.

The Amara Gel is a popular traditional styled full face mask by Philips Respironics and since its original release they have enhanced the mask with the addition of the following:-
  • Replaced the original Silicone version with the more popular Gel Cushion.
  • Introduced the Reduced Size Frame on all four sizes to help minimise pressure at the nasal bridge and improve seal at the chin.
  • Added a new 10-point Fine Glider Adjuster with an extra 2 positions, ensuring it can now deliver an additional 25% of adjustment, providing more flexibility for the right fit.
  • Now supplied in a colour printed bag made of 100% recyclable materials for improve sustainability.

Hope2Sleep's observations from personal experience are:-

  • Lightweight, compared to a lot of other full face masks.

  • Very easy to adjust the angle of the mask with the button forehead adjuster - you simply press the button and push or pull.

  • Since the release of the newer gel mask cushion version the Amara experience is even better (and most other people find this to be the case).

  • Comfortable headgear.

  • Due to the fact that the cushion is extended from the actual mask frame (see pictures) when moving in bed the cushion swivels with your face, thus preventing the frame digging in and helping minimise leaks too.

  • Very easy to assemble and disassemble resulting in it being easy to clean.

The Amara Gel Full Face Mask is available in four sizes and offers a dual wall design which provides a comfortable, stable seal.

The Gel Cushion features the comfort and contoured fit for which gel is known.  The outer gel flap conforms to the user's face while the thicker inner wall moulds to the face to support and stabilize the seal.

All size cushions are compatible with the Amara frame and headgear.

The cushion snaps on and off the frame easily for cleaning and changing cushions.

The mask variations are offered as follows :-

  • Petite (petite cushion + reduced size headgear)
  • Small (small cushion + reduced size headgear)
  • Medium (medium cushion + standard headgear)
  • Large (large cushion, + standard headgear)

Spare or Replacement Mask Cushions can be purchased separately, and it is crucial to get the correct size for this mask.  The cushions are generous in sizing, so please don't guess your size.  (If you are deciding between 2 sizes it is better to go smaller with this mask).

Philips Respironics say:-

Amara's innovative, modular design is lighter, smaller, and has significantly fewer parts than leading traditional full-face masks. In fact, it requires just a single click to disassemble and reassemble the cushion and the mask frame for quick cleaning and replacement.

Philips Respironics have redefined the full-face mask, making it easy to fit and easy to live with - plus it is designed and built to the exacting standards you would expect from Philips.

We’ve raised our standard when it comes to performance, appeal, and simplicity...

Leaks and sore nose
22 April 2021  |

I had been using the Amara View but wanted to change due to a sore lip at the nasal passage entrance. I ordered this full face mask to hope to alleviate this. I have the mask a full weeks use adjusting every night to try and improve fit but no matter what I did there was leaks and I always woke with a painful mark on the bridge of my nose. The mask is comfortable and would benefit someone who is used to a full face mask but it is definitely not for me. More money down the drain unfortunately. Might i just add that the Hope2Sleep service is second to none and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else

Response:

Thank you for your kind words to us at the charity, despite the mask not suiting you. Wondering if it's possible you may have ordered the wrong size mask cushion though so worth checking the fitting link as cushions can be bought separately and will all fit on the the same mask frame.

Response:

Steve, there are no plans to stop production of the Amara Gel - it's just the clear silicon version that's been discontinued. Glad you've found a mask that helps you and let's hope it doesn't get discontinued for a very long time 🙂

Have only tried a couple of nights but seems to be OK. I have problems moving about at night but this mask seems to stay in place.

Built in obsolence.

This is about the mask, not the service I get from Hope2Sleep, who I feel to be the best on line company I have found so far.

I have had four of these Amara masks since starting my nightly Darth Vader impressions. I find them to be the most comfortable - (mind you, as a private buyer without NHS or insurance coverage, I have not had the opportunity to try others) but there is a carefully designed failure point. The upper harness brackets are strong ABS plastic but will not take many months of stress and one day they will break. This upper bracket is not a spare part and the mask frame assembly is also not available without the whole 2 cushion package. I have repaired mine with epoxy and plastic sheet ( - I have to pay for this kit myself - ) but a repair only lasts so long. This new mask - my fourth - will be in service once this repair fails and the plastic unable to be repaired any longer. Philips make good kit, but they know where the best profits lie. Buy this with good faith, but it will last maximum 18 months. If you are not into DIY, then you need to buy a spare. Or - if your insurance covers it, try a couple of other makers.

Hi I have now lived in South Wales for 18 months I have attempted twice to get spares for my Mirage Quattro FX mask from my new clinic at St Woolass Hospital in Newport Gwent without any success then two weeks ago they offered me the Respironics Amara full face mask! I find the mask very good the one piece seal arrangement is super and the whole mask very comfortable to wear at night and even with a full set (beard and moustache) I am having very few problems with large leaks!! Overall a very comfortable mask.

ORDERS

Shipping

We try our best to ship all orders received by us Monday-Friday on the same working day if received before 12 noon, and more often than not orders processed before 3pm will be despatched the same day whenever possible.  Weekend or UK bank holiday orders are sent out the next working day.  An automated email is sent when products have been despatched so please check your spam box and add us to your safe senders list.  Also, if you do not receive an email confirmation, please check that you have typed the correct email address in your account.

All orders are sent via 1st class mail within the UK.  Masks and some other more expensive products are always sent via 'signed for' insured delivery and cannot be left in 'safe' places, but there is the option for an alternative shipping address when processing the orders.

Delivery charges are worked out automatically by weight and you can clearly see the delivery charges before making a payment.  On the rare occasion delivery charges are miscalculated by the website, a refund will be sent, as it is not our policy to make money on postage charges and neither do we add the cost of delivery into the price and offer so-called  'free delivery' like some sites and Ebay pressurise sellers to do!

Wherever possible with larger parcels, we try to re-use boxes to keep shipping costs down and protect the environment.

If a product is out of stock and the order contains multiple items, the 'in stock' items will be sent immediately and further items will follow upon arrival with no further postage charges incurred.

Important for International Orders

We can ship most products internationally, but all prices are in UK British Pounds and if paying by debit or credit card the bank will automatically convert to the current conversation rate.  Likewise, if you choose the Paypal option, they will convert into your currency for you as payment is made.

International orders are sent via tracked Airmail, and whilst we're happy to ship internationally, we cannot be held responsible for any delays at Customs at your end, or charges that may be added in your own country, such as customs fees and import tax on delivery, which are determined by your country’s import laws and are beyond our control. Therefore, it is the customer’s responsibility to pay these charges, and certain courier companies will not be able to deliver the goods to you without pre-payment of any charges. From our experience, it appears to be randomised as to which parcels incur extra charges, but please know that all accompanying paperwork is filled in correctly when shipping and there is nothing more we can do, as much as we'd like to.

If you purchase from us out of the UK or you move to another country after purchasing products, please be aware that the warranty for CPAP machines, masks and parts from the manufacturers are under warranty  with the manufacturer based in the UK, so you will be responsible for sending the product back to us and will need to pay postage to get the product back to you after exchange or repair, as the manufacturer will not pay for shipping in any country outside of the UK.

RETURNS

Masks, CPAP machines and and most other products are exempt from a refund or exchange unless faulty due to health and hygiene issues - as stated in our 'Terms and Conditions', and in particular due to the risk of cross contamination as they cannot be re-sold. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 28.(3)(a) confirms exemption as follows:-  "exemption in the case of a contract for the supply of sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they become unsealed after delivery."

Unopened (sealed) products in their original packing can be returned within 14 days for a refund of the product cost, but the purchaser is to pay the return postage, and we would advise retaining proof of postage. This excludes any faulty goods, for which postage will be reimbursed.  A full refund for the price of the product will be issued when received by us, less the original postage charges when the order was sent to you.
