BioXtra

BioXtra For long-lasting lubrication and comfort from dry mouth, especially at night.

It is really so very important to prevent a dry mouth, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease!   Unfortunately, CPAP  and non-invasive ventilation therapy can exacerbate a dry mouth and especially when other medication has to be taken which also has dry mouth as a side effect.

Despite the use of a CPAP or Ventilator Humidifier, some mask users still continue to suffer from the unpleasant issue of a dry mouth, which can also cause interrupted sleep and sometimes unnecessary bathroom trips, as people often have to turn to drinking water during the night to try to ease this problem.  Even more importantly, is the fact that a dry mouth can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, which is why it's so important to prevent this.

The air from the CPAP or Ventilator can cause dry mouth problems, but also bear in mind that a lot of medications people need to take for various medical conditions are also responsible - as are certain medical conditions themselves, like Sjögren's Syndrome and Diabetes etc., so the air pressure in the mask tends to exacerbate this.

Based on feedback from people who are looking to get relief from dry mouth specifically during the night, we would always first recommend trying the XyliMelts Discs which gradually dissolve during the night so the effects in most cases remain for longer than other gels or creams.  However, this BioXtra Gel or the Biotène Gel are certainly good alternative solutions for people finding using the discs difficult or even for topping up quickly when the XyliMelts have dissolved.

How BioXtra Can Help.....

BioXtra Dry Mouth Oral Gel acts as an effective substitute for natural saliva by regulating the microenvironment of the mouth. The unique formulation contains intensive moisturisers which soothe and lubricate for hours at a time and ease the symptoms and effects of Dry Mouth (Xerostomia). It helps promote healthy teeth and comfortable gums.

Additionally, the ingredient (Xylitol may also help prevent tooth decay, which is probably why dentists are recommending XyliMelts and other products containing Xylitol to their own patients).

Xylitol is already used for treating children with middle ear infections, as a sugar substitute for diabetics and in dentistry, and there are no known side effects in humans.  However, please be aware that Xylitol is POISONOUS TO DOGS so always be careful where you store it.

Directions for use:-

  • Wash hands thoroughly before use.
  • Apply gel liberally with your finger or a clean swab to gums and tongue or under dentures whenever mouth feels dry, especially at night.
  • Remove or spit out any excess.

Refreshing but not long lasting
28 February 2024  |

This gel is refreshing but it has been hard to convince my dementia riddled sleep apnea suffering elderly mother to take it. She doesn't seem to feel it does much. I am convinced any kind of moisture is helpful however and a spray is better than drinking copiuos amounts of water through the night to then be constantly bed wetting.

Response:

Bless her ❤️ Glad to hear your Mum's having some relief, but the XyliMelts do tend to last longer, although may be harder for your Mum to get them stuck due to her being affected by dementia 😢

Fairly good
31 July 2023  |

I bought the BioXtra Gel as my usual Biotene was out of stock. I found this gel had a pretty good effect but it was not as thick as the Biotene and I felt it didn't last as long. However I would keep it as my second choice.

That's a shame it didn't help so much with the dry mouth Kathryn, but it's so important to treat this so perhaps try the XyliMelts which are the biggest success for night time dry mouth 🤞

Gel to help dry mouth
23 February 2021  |

I’ve been using this regularly, some on my tongue and some around my gums. It stops the horrid tongue stuck to roof of mouth scenario every morning. You don’t need much to be effective, it’s pleasant to use.

Dry mouth

This has been one of the better mouth lubricants. You have to rub the gel around mouth walls and tongue. I use in cohabitation with mouth melts.

Dry mouth help?
16 February 2021  |

I’ve only used this product about three times so far. I think it’s helped as previously my mouth was so dry I could hardly move my tongue.

It’s still gets dry but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as bad as without using the gel. It’s probably at least 50% better.

It’s easy to apply. iI’s more just a matter of remembering to use it

Used as well as the melts
04 May 2020  |

I bought to complement the Xylimelts disc’s as I found they weren’t working as well as they used to. Very easy to use, I squirt some onto my tongue and then use my tongue to work round my mouth and gums. It has rather a thick texture and I would say vanilla in taste but not unpleasant. I have found this has helped so far but it has been only a couple of weeks.

ORDERS

Shipping

We try our best to ship all orders received by us Monday-Friday on the same working day if received before 12 noon, and more often than not orders processed before 3pm will be despatched the same day whenever possible.  Weekend or UK bank holiday orders are sent out the next working day.  An automated email is sent when products have been despatched so please check your spam box and add us to your safe senders list.  Also, if you do not receive an email confirmation, please check that you have typed the correct email address in your account.

All orders are sent via 1st class mail within the UK.  Masks and some other more expensive products are always sent via 'signed for' insured delivery and cannot be left in 'safe' places, but there is the option for an alternative shipping address when processing the orders.

Delivery charges are worked out automatically by weight and you can clearly see the delivery charges before making a payment.  On the rare occasion delivery charges are miscalculated by the website, a refund will be sent, as it is not our policy to make money on postage charges and neither do we add the cost of delivery into the price and offer so-called  'free delivery' like some sites and Ebay pressurise sellers to do!

Wherever possible with larger parcels, we try to re-use boxes to keep shipping costs down and protect the environment.

If a product is out of stock and the order contains multiple items, the 'in stock' items will be sent immediately and further items will follow upon arrival with no further postage charges incurred.

Important for International Orders

We can ship most products internationally, but all prices are in UK British Pounds and if paying by debit or credit card the bank will automatically convert to the current conversation rate.  Likewise, if you choose the Paypal option, they will convert into your currency for you as payment is made.

International orders are sent via tracked Airmail, and whilst we're happy to ship internationally, we cannot be held responsible for any delays at Customs at your end, or charges that may be added in your own country, such as customs fees and import tax on delivery, which are determined by your country’s import laws and are beyond our control. Therefore, it is the customer’s responsibility to pay these charges, and certain courier companies will not be able to deliver the goods to you without pre-payment of any charges. From our experience, it appears to be randomised as to which parcels incur extra charges, but please know that all accompanying paperwork is filled in correctly when shipping and there is nothing more we can do, as much as we'd like to.

If you purchase from us out of the UK or you move to another country after purchasing products, please be aware that the warranty for CPAP machines, masks and parts from the manufacturers are under warranty  with the manufacturer based in the UK, so you will be responsible for sending the product back to us and will need to pay postage to get the product back to you after exchange or repair, as the manufacturer will not pay for shipping in any country outside of the UK.

RETURNS

Masks, CPAP machines and and most other products are exempt from a refund or exchange unless faulty due to health and hygiene issues - as stated in our 'Terms and Conditions', and in particular due to the risk of cross contamination as they cannot be re-sold. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 28.(3)(a) confirms exemption as follows:-  "exemption in the case of a contract for the supply of sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they become unsealed after delivery."

Unopened (sealed) products in their original packing can be returned within 14 days for a refund of the product cost, but the purchaser is to pay the return postage, and we would advise retaining proof of postage. This excludes any faulty goods, for which postage will be reimbursed.  A full refund for the price of the product will be issued when received by us, less the original postage charges when the order was sent to you.
