Philips Respironics

The long-awaited version of the DreamWear Mask is now available for mouth breathers, and there is also some compatibility with the parts of the DreamWear Nasal Mask, should a person occasionally need to switch over from nasal to full face and vice versa.

This is a brand new mask so we eagerly await reviews, but after trials ourselves, we're expecting them to be positive. Time will tell......

It's worth knowing that people who have a Paypal account, can apply for Paypal Credit for purchases over £99.00 to spread the payments over 4 months with no added interest (0%).  The agreement is via yourself and Paypal who will pay our charity the full amount upon purchase, and more details can be found here https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-virtual-credit

This DreamWear Mask is suitable for mouth breathers, who can now benefit from the great features the original DreamWear brought to the market, such has having the hose connected at the top of the head rather than hanging below the mask.  Philips Respironics describe it as "like wearing nothing at all" and certainly compared to full face masks in general, it really is a light-weight mask.

Hope2Sleep's Observations:-

  • Amazed at how quiet the mask is when a good seal is achieved, even at higher pressures on non-invasive ventilators.

  • Love the way the hose connects at the top of the head, and is a perfect match for people who use the popular Hose Lift as it allows most of the hose tubing to be completely out of the way.

  • There are 3 sizes of mask frames and 4 sizes of cushions, so it is expected a combination of these should fit most people - if not all.

  • A good choice for people who struggle with nasal bridge sores, as this mask goes nowhere near that area.  Also this style of mask can help people with a receding jaw as it can often be difficult getting a traditional full face mask to fit correctly both at the nose bridge area and the chin.

  • The magnetic fasteners work well, but please read the 'Important Notes' at the bottom if you have any devices such as a pacemaker or cochlear implants etc.

  • A huge benefit for some people is that the frame of this mask can be used with the nasal cushions of the original DreamWear Nasal mask, so for people who don't need a full face mask all the time it is easy to detach the mouth cushion and replace it with the new gel nasal pillows or the nasal cushion.  However, the headgear is not the same on both masks, so a separate DreamWear Nasal Headgear will be needed for using it with the pillows or nasal cushion, but this will still make it cheaper than purchasing a separate mask.

  • The cushion is very soft, both around the mouth and where the nose inserts into the hole.  However, for people who still like or need a mask liner, there is now a version of the Silent Night Liners that fits both the DreamWear Full Face and the Amara View Full Face masks.

  • This is another welcome full face mask for people who like to wear reading  glasses in bed, which is impossible with some of the traditional styles.

Philips Respironics say:-

"Like wearing nothing at all.

  • Freedom of movement

Pack Contents:-

There are 2 options for purchase - you can either select the FitPack which contains all the mask cushions to ensure you obtain the correct size, or if you're confident of what size you require you can simply purchase the size of cushion you require.

It is highly recommended when purchasing the mask for the first time that you do go for the 'FitPack' so that you have the opportunity to try all the sizes.

It is VERY important to have the correct frame size and here's an image to help show how it should look:-

DreamWear Frame

If a different size of Mask Frame is needed, these can be purchased separately by clicking on THIS LINK and just like the headgear, over time it will stretch and a new frame can make a huge difference without the need to purchase the full mask. In fact all parts of the mask can be purchased only as and when required.

Some Common Questions answered by Philips Respironics:-

If a person lays on their side and closes off one side of the tubing, will the mask still provide therapy? Will it create a pressure spike?

The mask will continue to provide the prescribed therapy. Every other mask on the market operates with one tube running to the cushion and this mask operates in the same way.  No increase of pressure or noise will occur.

With the tubing right next to the ear, will DreamWear Full Face be noisier than other masks?

From a sound level perspective, the DreamWear Full Face mask is a quiet full face mask. However, since the airflow is located closer to the ears with this design and not routing downward in front of the patient, some people may notice the airflow noise more than a traditional mask.  For most patients the experience is quiet and comfortable with the unique design offering more freedom of movement. However, since this is such a different design, it may take some people some time to get use to the difference in the noise. It’s not louder - simply different.  (We at Hope2Sleep noticed the 1st night of use the mask did sound louder, but after a few nights the noise seemed to disappear!).

There are 3 sizes of frames. How do I choose the right size?

Always start with the medium frame. If the mask is too small, the frame will sit too close to the eyes. If the mask is too big, it will sit too close to the ears. Please refer to the quick start guide or instructions manual for pictures and a thorough description. In most cases, it will be obvious if a different size frame is needed. However, if there are leaks at night or the mask seems to move too much, a different size frame and/or cushion should be tried.

How do I clean the mask?

If you remove the headgear, cushion and swivel, the frame is essentially one tube. This can be cleaned the same way the short tubing on other masks or the longer CPAP tubing is cleaned. Wash with warm soapy water, it can be rinsed through the swivel connection as well. Set to dry and if there happens to be any remaining moisture in the tube before therapy is started, connecting it to the CPAP with pressure can help to remove this.  The mask may also be cleaned in the dishwasher once a week. The non-fabric parts can be washed on the top shelf of the dishwasher and air dried.  Please refer to the instructions manual that came with the mask.

What are the cushion sizes?  Does it size the same as DreamWear under the nose nasal cushions?  Does it size the same as Amara View?

DreamWear Full Face cushions come in four sizes: small, medium, large, and medium-wide.  The full face cushion, whilst covering both the nose and mouth, is sized based on the nasal opening, just like the under-the-nose cushions.  The nasal opening is the exact same design and shape as the DreamWear under the nose cushion which means, there is  a direct correlation between DreamWear full face and DreamWear under-the-nose sizing – a medium in the full face is a medium in the nasal, etc.  However, the DreamWear full face nasal opening is a different design and shape than the Amara View opening and the two masks size differently.  Therefore, there is not a direct correlation between DreamWear full face and Amara View.

How can you tell the difference between cushion and frame sizes?

The cushion indicator is on the front of the cushion next to the arrow that points to the arrow on the frame for the connection. The frame size indicator is on the top of the frame behind the elbow connection.

Why are there 2 exhalation ports?

The split exhalation design enables the exhalation airflow to be dispersed and therefore isn’t as strong coming from just 1 exhalation port.

What mask does this replace?

DreamWear Full Face is our premium full face mask offering.  It is not intended to replace any Philips mask.

Important Notes:-

The headgear clips and mask cushion contain magnets

DreamWear Full Face CPAP Mask
07 August 2024  |

I'm fairly new to using CPAP for treating my sleep apnoea. Mask is very comfy fit. Hose runs through mask from top of your head which I find less intrusive. The cushion is a snug fit for me with the soft silicone rubber. I also like the clips which are magnetic and seem to guide themselves easily into there connection/holes with zero fuss.

Probably for emergencies only
24 April 2024  |

After 10 years of happily using nasal pillows I’ve started mouth breathing. The only full face mask supplied by my sleep clinic is really uncomfortable so I’ve been trying this one. I can’t get away with it, although maybe I need to persist - it’s been hard going back to square one with a full face mask after all these years.

I also have some issues with tooth sensitivity due to medication for another condition. The way this mask sits seems to put pressure on my teeth and feels very strange, not conducive to sleep.

My present solution is nasal pillows plus chin strap which is partially successful but I will try to get used to this full face mask during the day to see if things improve. At the very least I will hope to be able to tolerate this as a full face mask to use if I have a cold or nasal congestion. .

Response:

Thanks for your high review, despite you're having some struggles settling back into a full face mask. Perhaps this is due to winter nasal congestion which may resolve itself during the better weather so that you can go back to your nasal pillows mask. It would be worth trying a natural nose spray like Sterimar and nose strips too to open up your nasal passages.

Only got mask a few days ago and positively no leaks, slips on and off very easily - not helped as much with dry mouth as I had hoped though. Overall has improved my quality of sleep a fair bit, but still a little early to say.

Response:

It's not often a different mask helps with dry mouth, unless people are mouth breathing in a nasal mask, in which case using a full face mask can often help with this. If you don't have a CPAP Humidifier then request one from your hospital, or you could try the very popular XyliMelts Dry Mouth Discs which we sell on the website. Pleased to hear the DreamWear mask is helping you though 😊

Game Changer!
03 March 2024  |

I've worn this mask ever since I started on CPAP almost a year ago. I couldn't imagine using a mask where the hose comes out the front now! I like to toss and turn before getting comfoy for sleep and the hose placement with a hose lift means there is no tugging or pulling on the mask.
I did initially find it hard to get the right fit but over time I found what worked for me. I like that it doesn't go over the nose, it sits under it comfortably. I use a clean cotton liner each night as my skin is easily irritated by most plastics. I don't get any major leaks even with the liner.
I find using a soft pillow means the mask doesn't dig back into my face so it's comfortable and has never slipped off in the night.
Overall this is an amazing mask and I simply wouldn't be without it. It's minimal but suitable for mouth breathing, easy to get on/off and adjust and is comfortable. What else do you need?

Light & Comfortable
13 November 2023  |

My experience of the Dreamwear FFM has been good so far, with few leaks or morning face marks. The choice of separate frame and mask/cushion sizes made for a great deal of flexibility in getting a good fit. Also the hose connection on top of the frame (i.e. your head), makes for easier movement and less dragging when in bed (particularly with a hose lift and hose cover). The mask seems lighter, more pliable and wears closer to the face than many of the full(er) face mask alternatives - no sense of a bit of furniture clamped to your face! I’ve experience consistently low nightly leak levels using this mask, probably because there is none of the drag from the weight of a hose connection on the front.

It does vent from both the top of the frame ‘swivel’ as well as from the cushion/mask - initially I thought this was a big leak! It takes some time to get used to the little tornado kicking off at the top of your head, but it does mean a reduced vent flow round the face. The face mask vents are directed more downward and outward, so away from your eyes; while the vents on the top direct upwards away from your head. The vents also act to diffuse the expelled airflow and reduce noise, but because of this I found it difficult to distinguish between the deliberately vented air and minor mask leaks when feeling around the mask for leaks.

I also found that using my humidifier with its more moisture laden air, dampened the noise considerably in both the mask and frame.

Head straps are adjusted by velcro (at four points) and the two straps to the actual mask part are held in place by magnetic catches rather the hooks. These are strong enough to positively self-locate if brought near the mask attachment points - they latch on very quickly and securely. I’ve had no issues with these coming undone when sleeping. I found I don’t have to tighten the straps that much to maintain a good seal through the night, so not had any problems with face marks in the morning. People who have implanted medical devices are advised to seek guidance before using masks with magnetic attachments.

Masks are obviously very personal items, where comfort and fit are crucial (and usually non-returnable if not!). I went down to H2Ss office to get one fitted, cost of trip easily offset by the likely cost of getting it wrong. Natalie is able to ‘size you up’ and point you in the direction of the best candidates and let you try out various sample masks. They have a bed setup to allow you to try these out while lying down. Ideally bring your own machine (and possibly pillows?) to see how it works at your pressures and preferred sleeping position …and book ahead!

Great improvement on ResAir nasal mask
13 June 2023  |

I was originally given a Resmed nasal mask, which was quite difficult to get a good fit, it was either too tight or it leaked badly. After buying this with the fit pack, the leaks have improved and so has my sleep.

Great improvement

Since switching to the Dreamwear full face I have been relieved and delighted with a reduced number of nightly episodes. I am also pleased with the design which is comfortable and practical for someone who turns in their sleep quite a lot!

We're always pleased to hear when people find a more suitable mask, as with the best CPAP machine in the world, if the mask isn't the 'right one' and comfortable, it lowers our therapy.

Best I have found.
21 February 2023  |

I started with my prescribed "Dam Busters" type mask and found it very awkward. I have tried slightly different designs of full face masks but the Dream Wear is by far the best for me. Comfortable, good seal, air tube system avoids tangles.

Best mask to date
27 January 2023  |

I am a side sleeper and really struggle with tubing disconnecting when I move. This mask solves that. The clever design puts the tube connector on top of your head, feeding the air down 2 silicone tubes to a mask that sits comfortably over your mouth and beneath your nose, which pushes gently up to form a seal around your nostrils. I am using a medium with medium headgear and for me it’s perfect. It has kept a great seal even when I turn over and is very light and comfortable. Took a bit of adjusting but once you have it really is fantastic!

ORDERS

Shipping

We try our best to ship all orders received by us Monday-Friday on the same working day if received before 12 noon, and more often than not orders processed before 3pm will be despatched the same day whenever possible.  Weekend or UK bank holiday orders are sent out the next working day.  An automated email is sent when products have been despatched so please check your spam box and add us to your safe senders list.  Also, if you do not receive an email confirmation, please check that you have typed the correct email address in your account.

All orders are sent via 1st class mail within the UK.  Masks and some other more expensive products are always sent via 'signed for' insured delivery and cannot be left in 'safe' places, but there is the option for an alternative shipping address when processing the orders.

Delivery charges are worked out automatically by weight and you can clearly see the delivery charges before making a payment.  On the rare occasion delivery charges are miscalculated by the website, a refund will be sent, as it is not our policy to make money on postage charges and neither do we add the cost of delivery into the price and offer so-called  'free delivery' like some sites and Ebay pressurise sellers to do!

Wherever possible with larger parcels, we try to re-use boxes to keep shipping costs down and protect the environment.

If a product is out of stock and the order contains multiple items, the 'in stock' items will be sent immediately and further items will follow upon arrival with no further postage charges incurred.

Important for International Orders

We can ship most products internationally, but all prices are in UK British Pounds and if paying by debit or credit card the bank will automatically convert to the current conversation rate.  Likewise, if you choose the Paypal option, they will convert into your currency for you as payment is made.

International orders are sent via tracked Airmail, and whilst we're happy to ship internationally, we cannot be held responsible for any delays at Customs at your end, or charges that may be added in your own country, such as customs fees and import tax on delivery, which are determined by your country’s import laws and are beyond our control. Therefore, it is the customer’s responsibility to pay these charges, and certain courier companies will not be able to deliver the goods to you without pre-payment of any charges. From our experience, it appears to be randomised as to which parcels incur extra charges, but please know that all accompanying paperwork is filled in correctly when shipping and there is nothing more we can do, as much as we'd like to.

If you purchase from us out of the UK or you move to another country after purchasing products, please be aware that the warranty for CPAP machines, masks and parts from the manufacturers are under warranty  with the manufacturer based in the UK, so you will be responsible for sending the product back to us and will need to pay postage to get the product back to you after exchange or repair, as the manufacturer will not pay for shipping in any country outside of the UK.

RETURNS

Masks, CPAP machines and and most other products are exempt from a refund or exchange unless faulty due to health and hygiene issues - as stated in our 'Terms and Conditions', and in particular due to the risk of cross contamination as they cannot be re-sold. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 28.(3)(a) confirms exemption as follows:-  "exemption in the case of a contract for the supply of sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they become unsealed after delivery."

Unopened (sealed) products in their original packing can be returned within 14 days for a refund of the product cost, but the purchaser is to pay the return postage, and we would advise retaining proof of postage. This excludes any faulty goods, for which postage will be reimbursed.  A full refund for the price of the product will be issued when received by us, less the original postage charges when the order was sent to you.
